If you're selling digital or downloadable products, such as eBooks, PDFs, or printables, please read this documentation.

1. Set up downloadable files

The first step is to upload a downloadable file to your store.

  1. In your admin area, navigate to Products > Downloads.
  2. Click the Add New button.
  3. Enter a Download Name.
  4. Upload your file in the second field, Filename. This will autofill the Filename field with your file's name along with random characters (to prevent unauthorised access).
  5. While the Mask field gets autofilled, to help protect your downloads, we recommend using a different filename and mask. The filename is the actual name of the file on the server, while the mask is the name shown to users. Keeping them different makes it harder for someone to guess the real file link and try to download it without having purchased it.
  6. Save. Do not skip saving or your file won't be available.

2. Add a downloadable file to your product

  1. After setting up a downloadable file, to add a download file to your product, in your admin area, go to Products > View Products. You will now see all products available in your store.
  2. To edit a product, click on the "pencil icon" next to the product. Now click on the tab Connect.
  3. Scroll down to the section Downloads and select a download. Multiple downloads can be selected.
  4. Save.

3. Ensure that order statuses are correctly set up

Your order statuses have to be set up in order to allow clients to download the product. This step is crucial, otherwise your clients will not receive any digital file.

  1. Follow the instructions in our how to add a new order status documentation, specifically the section about assigning the order statuses.
  2. Once you reach the Checkout section, hover over Complete order status to read the help text.
  3. Next to Complete order status, tick the box(es) for the status(es) for where you'd like downloads to be available. For example, if you want the downloads to be downloadable by your clients when the order status is set to Completed, then select Completed, and maybe even Complete, and perhaps others in that list, such as your own custom order status(es).
  4. Save.
